Walking in Crossed Feet
Crossed feet is the ‘other’ way of walking in tango, and is a very important element of the dance. The signature movement in crossed feet is the back ocho. A lovely movement by itself the back ocho also opens the door to a number of nice turns.
Great Orchestras of the Golden Age
The music of the late 40s is in my opinion the peak of tango music for dancing. There was innovation going on everywhere, vocalists were finding new styles, orchestras were changing the balance between rhythm and melody. The music sometimes looked back to its history, but the push was ever forward. We will explore this music with the dance and see how we might change our dance to fit the orchestra and the music.
This series will develop the techniques required to dance comfortably in close embrace. It is suitable for beginners and for those with some experience who are new to close embrace.
Check Step Turns
In this class we will develop a family of rhythmic turns I call check step turns. They are dynamic, compact turns that work well on the social dance floor, including the ocho cortado and some nice variations.
Milonga
Milonga is one of the other styles of music you hear when you go out dancing tango. Often dancers sit down when milongas come on, and as a result miss out dancing to this lovely, fun music. Starting from fundamentals this class will develop a smooth and musical walking style of milonga and a vocabulary that will work easily on the dance floor.
